Google Search Console: how your site looks in Google

Search Console is Google's free tool that shows how your site appears in search: which queries find you, which pages are indexed and what technical problems exist. It is the main data source for SEO.

What is Google Search Console?

Search Console shows the link between your site and Google Search. GA4 measures what happens after people arrive; Search Console measures the step before: impressions, clicks, average position and click-through rate.

On the technical side it shows indexing problems, Core Web Vitals and structured data errors. Every SEO audit starts here.

Questions about Search Console

Is Search Console free?

Yes, it is completely free. You only need to verify that you own the site.

What is the difference between Search Console and GA4?

Search Console shows what happens in search; GA4 shows behaviour after people land on the site. Together they give the full picture.

Why is my page not indexed?

The most common reasons: a noindex tag, a robots.txt block, thin or duplicate content, no internal links. The indexing report shows the reason.

How long is data kept?

The performance report holds 16 months of data. For long-term analysis I recommend exporting to Data Studio or BigQuery.
