Microsoft Clarity: free heatmaps and session recordings

Microsoft Clarity is a free tool that shows how people move through your site. It collects heatmaps, session recordings and frustration signals such as "rage clicks" automatically. It is one of the first tools I set up in a CRO audit.

What is Microsoft Clarity?

Clarity connects to a site with one snippet and records every session. Heatmaps show what people click and how far they scroll; recordings show one user's path.

The most valuable part is the signals: repeated clicks on one spot (rage clicks), clicks that lead nowhere (dead clicks), quick backs. They show why the funnel leaks faster than the numbers do.

Questions about Clarity

Is Clarity really free?

Yes, it is free with no traffic limit.

Does it slow the site down?

The script loads asynchronously; the impact is usually not noticeable.

Is personal data recorded?

Form fields are masked by default. Sensitive areas need extra masking.
