Yandex Metrica: free analytics and session recordings

Yandex Metrica is a free web analytics service. Next to standard reports it gives Webvisor session recordings and click maps in one place. It is still widely used in projects with a Russian-speaking audience and Yandex advertising.

What is Yandex Metrica?

Metrica collects visit, source, goal and e-commerce data with one counter snippet on the site. Webvisor shows individual sessions like a video: you see where a user paused and where they got stuck in a form.

Set up next to GA4, the two sources check each other and Webvisor shows the reason behind the numbers. For privacy, fields with personal data must be hidden from recordings.

Questions about Metrika

Is Yandex Metrica free?

Yes, the core features are free.

If I have GA4, do I need Metrica?

It is useful for Webvisor and form analytics. But with two counters, goals should be named with the same logic.

Does personal data end up in recordings?

It can if not set up correctly. Special attributes are used to hide form fields from recordings.
